4 December 2006 – 10 December 2006

The Week beginning December 4th, 2006

Week as a Whole:

Astrologers group the signs of the zodiac into three modes: cardinal, fixed, and mutable.  The cardinal signs are originators, beginners, sources of new action and ideas.  Fixed signs, like the name implies, focus energy and purpose, maintain action, and have momentum.  The mutable signs, also as their name implies, are shifting and symbolize phases of human life in which we react to our surroundings and adjust to conditions.  The Full Moon that begins this week occurs in the mutable signs of Sagittarius (the Sun) and Gemini (the Moon).  This normally is a time when we make adjustments to our communications and understandings.  It is about ideas and vision, words and policy.  But this Full Moon is formed in square to Uranus, also in a mutable sign (Pisces).  Uranus brings sudden and erratic change energy into this Full Moon.  On a trivial level this can be felt as a “twitchy” feeling.  On a more profound level, we can be awakened to a new reality in our world.

Uranus is often called a “wild” planet since he represents change that is essentially uncontrollable.  Change like severe weather, earth changes, radical political action, and interestingly technology.  This association with technology suggests that innovation and invention can unleash forces with unforeseen consequences, like Frankenstein or the Sorcerer’s Apprentice.  Uranus has been a significant influence since late last week when the Sun moved to make the square angle and his influence continues into this week’s Full Moon.  These are unsettling and even startling times.  But rest assured that they will pass by week’s end.  The results of these upheavals may take longer to integrate and understand.

Continuing on the theme of “mutable” signs, by the end of this week, there will be 6 planets in Sagittarius: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Pluto.  When the Moon enters Virgo next Sunday, there will briefly be 8 of 10 planets in mutable signs.  Uranus in Pisces and the Moon in Virgo make 8.  This is a serious imbalance and over-reaction is the simplest manifestation.  Fortunately, or maybe not so foretunately, Saturn in fixed sign Leo is turning retrograde on Tuesday and this will counterbalance the mutability to some extent.  U.S. President Bush is perhaps the most visible example of this fixed Leo energy.  In him we can see the virtues of courage, loyalty, and determination as well as the pitfall of stubborn fixation.  In times prone to such oscillatory excess, we can use some of his steadfast energy to keep our heads in balance.

This Saturn retrograde takes place almost…almost…in exact contact with Pluto.  Saturn combines with Pluto to form a powerful synergy enabling us to grow up and evolve, to shed outgrown attitudes and behaviors, to revise plans and goals.  This in combination with the extreme forward focus of all the Sagittarian planets has the world eager to move into the future, impatient with waiting, and inclined to overlook the details necessary for real change.  The quick and easy fix is very tempting, and not just in Iraq.  We all need to strive to ground ourselves…no earth planets remember…and slow down and look down at what’s right in front of us.

Another imbalance formed by the cluster in Sagittarius is apparent by another astrological grouping of the signs:  earth, air, fire, and water.  The 6 Sagittarius planets late this week are all in fire signs.  Saturn in Leo adds another fire planet making seven of 10 in fire; Neptune is our sole air planet and Neptune in Pisces our water planet.  When the Moon passes through Leo on Friday and Saturday there will be 8 fire planets.  Fire brings heat and light, and fire also consumes and moves.  Control of fire and the related energy generating wisdoms are a truly human characteristic.  Out of control this energy has great destructive power both in nature and in war.  Fire must be fed or it fades and goes out.  We have a chance this week to feel what it’s like to be a strong fire-sign person who can be bored easily, who’s restless, who lights up a room and warms our hearts, who’s here and then who’s gone.

The Sagittarian seeks to rise up to expand his/her vision to broader and broader horizons.  The symbol expresses this progression in its animal, human, and the abstract bow and arrow components.  The Centaur ranges far and wide bearing his human aspect into new experience.  He can illuminate dark corners with his arrows of light.  He can also skewer people in tender spots.  With Jupiter newly liberated from his yearlong passage of Scorpio, the future now seems bright with possibilities and solutions.  We should remember that Saturn won’t make the complete connection with Pluto until next August when real forward motion will occur.

But this is not to say that nothing will change until then.  This Thursday Venus aligns with Pluto indicating a time to refresh our relationships by agreeing on a shared future.  This is time to re-visit assumptions about our joint plans and confirm or revise or abandon those we may no longer find compelling.  This happens every year and is the beginning point of relational growth whose cycle is anchored on the major Venus – Pluto contacts.  It is also time to let go of people with whom there is no longer any real interaction.  Our world is speeding up and none of us has time or energy for empty gestures.

Finally on Friday Mercury enters Sagittarius making the 6 of 10 planets in Sagittarius and the 8 of 10 in fire signs.  Mercury tends to leap and occasionally sting in Sagittarius.  He (that is our minds) can neglect to gather the facts necessary to prove his theory…especially if those facts may disprove an attractive idea.  Gemini and Virgo people may find these “Saggy” times frustrating although it’s exactly their point of view that’s needed.

Daily Forecasts:

Monday 4 December 2006

Full Moon madness in some places.  The Moon is Full at 4:25pm/7:25pm and everyone’s buzzing or changing or both.  Deep breaths will help.  The out of control feeling will pass.

Tuesday  5 December 2006

Politics is Saturn’s playing field.  Expect it to be “game on” today as Saturn stands still in our sky this evening.  A tide of events has peaked and will now slowly recede until Saturn resumes direct motion in about 4 months. The Moon goes Void at 3:11pm/6:11pm and enters Cancer at 10:00pm/1:00am.  Mars adds to the crowd in Sagittarius this evening.  Now they are 5.

Wednesday 6 December 2006

Venus links with Saturn late tonight after the Moon has gone Void at 5:13pm/8:13pm.  This is part of the interpersonal growth energy that continues into tomorrow when she aligns with Pluto.  Nothing we do or commit to with each other now is trivial.  Be precise and conscious.

Thursday 7 December 2006

The Moon is Void all day but Venus connects with Pluto and Mercury enters Sagittarius making 6 planets now horsing around.  Resist the urge to act or choose under the Void Moon.  The claustrophobic feeling will lift tomorrow.

Friday 8 December 2006

The Moon has entered Leo overnight and makes quick contact with Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter by midday.  Expect a major mood shift into fiery mode.  Try not to go everywhere at once and get nowhere.  Use consciousness to stay focused and avoid the jitterbugs skittering about.

Saturday 9 December 2006

Mercury aligns with Mars today, and when this happens in Sagittarius the tendency is to shoot from the verbal hip.  Sarcasm is the ugly cousin of sharp wit.  Some words cannot be taken back, so be kind.

Sunday 10 December 2006

The Moon is Void for an hour from 12:35pm/3:35pm until 1:31pm/4:31pm when she enters Virgo.  Not only do we finally get earth energy from the Virgo Moon but finally a planet is entering an earth sign: Venus crosses into Capricorn this evening and we will enjoy consistent grounding for the immediate future.

Long Range Forecast:

December 5th Saturn stations and begins 4 months of retrograde motion.  He ALMOST makes an exact contact with Pluto that would indicate a major release of pent up change energy, and these changes will seem imminent.  But they will be delayed until next summer when Saturn has resumed normal motion and again moves into this same angle with Pluto, only this time he will make the connection.

Long-Long Range Forecast:

April 14, 2009 – December 21, 2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in Capricorn.  The end of business-as-usual politics.  The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times.  The transition to organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.

June 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s.  Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail.  Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a car.  Plan to live where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them.  What a thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
