The Week beginning October 9th, 2006
Week as a Whole:
One of the interesting ways to group the planets in astrology is by visibility with the naked eye. Saturn, with his rings, is the outermost visible planet and this clearly accords with his symbolic role as the prime limiter in human affairs. Saturn steps into our lives and pressures us with ever mounting force to outgrow people, situations, and attitudes as steps in our own path to maturity. He is the “Old Father Time” we honor at the New Year and his sickle reminds us of his power to cut off the old to make way for the new. Time more than any other factor in life inexorably shows us our limits. Beyond Saturn lie Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto; these three represent forces that touch our lives from invisible realms. Uranus flashes out of thunderclouds; Neptune swims up from the depths of our unconscious; and Pluto strikes from the deep darkness. This week Neptune’s invisible but powerful influence, with a splash of Uranus, will be felt as all the inner planets (the Sun, Mercury, and Venus) contact Neptune.
Just as Saturn is lord of walls and fences and even our skin, Neptune acts to dissolve all boundaries and to encourage an “everything is everything” attitude. When the Sun links with Neptune on Tuesday we can enjoy a surge of artistic and creative vision that comes with Sun – Neptune connections. The squares and oppositions to Neptune can bring confusion, illusion, along with his bright flashes of magic. This contact washes Neptune’s waves over us but never drowns us. Those whose birth charts connect with Tuesday’s Sun and Neptune may find themselves making “lucky” connections, meeting people who seem like old friends at first encounter, or realizing that they’ve just shared a complex thought with a friend without words. Artists and musicians can find their vision re-charged. It’s a time for all of us to consider how our relationships can help us to reach our ideals. It’s a time to contemplate what makes us each special and valuable. It’s also time to keep a lid on own inner Messianic complexes.
Neptune’s principle connection with us comes through our dreams. Expect to find your dream life potentially more significant than the events of waking life. Expect to carry dream images with you into daily life. Try to write down in detail your dreams so you can re-visit them for meaning. Often “big” dreams help us to understand events that follow them.
Mercury connects with Uranus also on Tuesday to make the 10th a strange and wonderful day for some of us. Both Mercury in Scorpio and Uranus in Pisces are in water signs and this adds to the non-logical energy in effect. Our bodies will give us more information than our intellects and logic. Mercury in Scorpio thus connected will suddenly KNOW what’s happening because it feels right. We have a chance on Tuesday to glimpse behind the scenes and catch hidden forces at work. More can be communicated in a shared glance than in pages of words.
On Friday, Venus enters Neptune-land and Tuesday’s sparkle continues to enhance our aesthetic experiences. Our relations with other people continue to feel unusually significant…and they are. Neptune’s invisible energy brings us together with those with whom we share karma. Often the karma can be no more than the recognition of a fellow traveler met in good spirit and a willingness to help. Our collective unconscious holds images and archetypes that are charged with more meaning than words can convey. When Neptune opens the doorway to these images, art and music become more than enjoyment and ornament. This is a week to turn off public radio in our cars and turn on our favorite music.
Our “Journey in Satchidananda” concludes on Sunday with more Neptune, this time Mercury makes a square angle with him. This is when we may encounter the more confusing aspects of “everything is everything”. We may be a bit foggy and dreamy in a way that can interfere with simple tasks. Some of us may not be satisfied with the plain truth and will embellish their stories. Some of us may be blinded by the glamorous bright shine on the surface of events and fail to penetrate to their true significance. But Sunday also brings another invisible energy into play: Pluto. Mars and Pluto connect early Sunday morning and next week we’ll have more Pluto as the Sun and Venus connect with him. So try not to pretend to be anything false because Pluto doesn’t “play” and often reveals secrets at their most damaging moments.
Throughout this Neptune dominated week, care should be taken to avoid pollution. Our Saturn boundaries have become permeable membranes and we can absorb energy from our environment. Our skins are thin so we need to be choosey about where we hang out and remember those healing places and sounds than can cleanse us if we get polluted.
Daily Forecasts:
Monday 9 October 2006
The Moon goes Void at 10:07am/1:07pm and remains so until 11:06pm/2:06am. Get an early start to make us of our only earth energy until next week’s Virgo Moon.
Tuesday 10 October 2006
The magical mystery tour begins this morning with the Sun touching Neptune. It may begin in your early morning dreams. Savor those moments of drifting between the worlds as you wake up. Don’t jump out of bed. We’re all experiencing mental lightning this evening as Mercury connects with Uranus. Body language and just the right words can convey volumes of meaning.
Wednesday 11 October 2006
Before the Gemini Moon goes Void at 5:22pm/8:22pm, she makes several harmonious contacts including an air triangle with Neptune and the Sun. Yes the magic continues, but a dark side may appear when she goes Void opposite Pluto.
Thursday 12 October 2006
The Moon has entered Cancer overnight just as Mars and Saturn work together diplomatically. This is probably the deepest day with all the action beneath the surface.
Friday 13 October 2006
A busy Moon may bring us highs and lows today. Neptune still rules when Venus connects this evening. A great night for a masquerade party. Pay special attention today to small details and little signs that can be guides as we move through our day. Don’t swim upstream.
Saturday 14 October 2006
The Moon went Void overnight and enters Leo today at 11:38am/2:38pm. The intensity of Mars working with Pluto will be felt before their contact is exact tomorrow. No idle chatter or false promises now. This is a time when commitments to real personal change can be made and then kept.
Sunday 15 October 2006
We’re liable to trip over our own tongues or egos today with Mercury square to Neptune and the Moon opposing and squaring from Leo. The transition from Neptune to Pluto next week has begun. Expect to feel a growing “heaviness” in the flow.
Long Range Forecast:
November 8 – In the middle of Mercury retrograde (10/29 through 11/18) Mercury aligns exactly with the Sun in an “eclipse of Mercury”. The last time this happened was May 2003. Remember “Mission Accomplished?” I’m concerned about major Mercury aspects occurring near Election Day in the U.S. The 2000 election occurred on the day Mercury changed direction. The anticipated widespread use of electronic voting machines and validity of their results may be an issue. (Thanks to reader John Dawson for alerting me to this event.)
November 23rd – Jupiter leaves Scorpio to spend a year in his home sign of Sagittarius. Less spying and secret courts, more transparency. A new cycle of foreign affairs, jurisprudence, and religious thinking begins.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
April 14, 2009 – October 21, 2010
- Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in
Capricorn. The end of
business-as-usual politics. The
nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government
will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.
June 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto,
a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology
and/or petroleum-based economies fail.
Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a
car. Plan to live where you’ll know your
neighbors…maybe even love them. What a
thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
