2 October 2005 – 8 October 2005
Week of October 2nd, 2005
Week as a Whole:
The energies of Mars and Pluto serve to both destroy and create. When they combine, it’s easy to focus on the negative consequences, but there are bad situations that cry out for profound change. And there’s the process of cleansing that is destructive while being healthy. Mars has just begun his 10-week retrograde period while tightly connected with Pluto and these forces are at work in our world at elevated levels.
We do have bombings and mayhem in Asia and the Middle East. But we also are beginning to confront the cleansing of New Orleans. Somehow the U.S. has to deal with 22 million tons of rubble. Other old and toxic situations are being changed. Note the Irish Republican Army has given up its arms in a historic end game phase of that long and bitter struggle. The current crop of corrupt U.S. politicians and their lobbyist cronies find the status quo shifting beneath them. And late last week, the press reported the U.S. military suggesting that less troops would help the Iraq situation. Mars moving backward in retrograde motion is a perfect symbol for military withdrawal.
Prior reports have mentioned the long-lasting Y pattern formed by Mars with Jupiter and Pluto. This is a powerful and long-lasting dose of Mars, Pluto, and Jupiter energy because the pattern astronomically lingers over several weeks. Mars is virtually motionless as he changes direction, Pluto moves slowly all the time, and only Jupiter’s stately progress through Libra will cause it to lose focus over the next two weeks. Monday’s eclipse adds a second Y pattern; this one has Uranus making the Y with Saturn on one branch and the eclipsing Sun and Moon on the other. Like Mars and Pluto, Uranus acts to destroy the status quo. He strikes like lightning, suddenly and powerfully with explosive impact. He represents “wild” forces of nature beyond our control as they scramble our well-made plans. These Y patterns often symbolize forks in our road, choices that we must confront without postponement.
Two weeks from now, at the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, the Sun will have moved from this week’s Y pattern with Saturn to replace Mercury/Jupiter in a Y pattern with Mars and Pluto. Most unusual.
The Uranus Y pattern focuses from the 4 o’clock position (Uranus) making a Y with Saturn (10 o’clock) and the Sun and Moon rising at the 9 o’clock spot. The Mars Y pattern runs from Mars (1 o’clock) spreading out to Pluto just after 6 o’clock and Jupiter/Mercury at 8 o’clock. You’ll find Venus opposite Mars in this chart and they are both in signs and locations (in the chart for the U.S. capitol) that symbolize money and power. So Cheney has surgery, DeLay and Frist are “busted” and the U.S. will be looking at a radically changed Supreme Court as this eclipse unfolds. President Bush, who was born with Pluto rising in the east, continues his life pattern of following lucky breaks with disaster. He is an agent of Pluto’s great power, his wealth, and his servant as well.
This week begins with the drawing in that always comes with the days just before a New Moon. And this eclipse, in the number 10 degree of Libra, bears the symbol of “a professor peering over his glasses at his students.” The universe is clearly offering us a learning experience, an opportunity to see our various situations from a different point of view. We can put down our close-up glasses and take a long distance view. For all of us, we’re concerned with how we balance our personal needs with the needs of our partners. This is a Libra New Moon, social and interpersonal and intellectual. We’re looking for objectivity and justice. Life may feel like the deck of a ship in a high sea and we’re seeking a solid footing.
Mercury becomes exactly aligned with Jupiter on Wednesday offering another symbolic potential for a new insight and mental clarity. Mercury and Jupiter cooperate as a pair of planets that represent our mental functions of information sharing and intellectual understanding. They align once every year, but only in Libra every 12 years. Together like this, they indicate that we can keep a cool head amidst what should be a period of major chaos and re-structuring.
When the Sun links with Neptune on Friday the image of a new future comes from the back to the front of our minds. This linkage gives us hope for harmony and the power of sister/brotherhood to make a difference in the world. The media and our technology bring us together around ideas and over-the-horizon events to feel our common humanity.
Also on Friday Venus moves into Sagittarius and about 12 hours later, on Saturday, Mercury leaves Libra and enters Scorpio. With both inner planets changing signs so close together, we can expect to feel a shift in our interior space. This is a movement from the purely personal into a concern for a wider social experience, citizenship rather than partnership; there’s a shifting from making commitments to the consequences of those same commitments.
Finally, in these stressful times, it bears repeating that those of us whose personal horoscopes are being touched by these strong patterns will be acting out and experiencing major change in their lives. Those of us not directly connected by our celestial antennae form the audience…this time.

Long Range Forecast:
On the website: A look at the high energy dates
for 2005.
October 3rd - Five planets (Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Pluto and a stationary Mars)
form a Y pattern called the "finger of God" - guess which
finger. The eclipsing Sun and Moon are part of another "finger of
God" pattern with Saturn and Uranus. This is one of the corners in
time when we're faced with unavoidable choices. All planets, except for
Neptune, are involved in these patterns. Even if this wasn't an eclipse,
this is a remarkably intense configuration. The planets re-focus in ten
days when the Sun enters the Mars pattern, and Mercury and Venus connect with
Saturn and Uranus.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
November 14, 2009 – August 21, 2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to
Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of
business-as-usual politics. The
nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional
government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal
mixture.
June 24, 2012 – March 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major
hard aspect to Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second
half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may
come true when the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail. Plan to live where there is food and water
and you don’t need a car. Plan to live
where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose
between eating grain on a commune or eating rats in the city.
Daily Forecasts
Sunday 2 October 2005
The quiet before the storm as the Moon ends her Void period at 7:24am/10:24am and enters Libra moving toward the eclipse early tomorrow morning.
Monday 3 October 2005
Take time this morning to enter the stillness of slow breaths and open charkas. Create a space of inner calm, the Mercury/Jupiter alignment in air symbolize an opportunity to be both inside and everywhere in our world. The New Moon Eclipse is in an air sign and it bears repeating that air fills the space between us and at the same time unites us.
Tuesday 4 October 2005
The Moon goes Void at 8:15am/11:15am and remains so until 5:03pm/8:03pm when she enters Scorpio. She will align with Venus in the very last degree of Scorpio late Thursday night. Starting this evening and for next two days, we need to finish our obligations, pay debts, and show up when and where we promised.
Wednesday 5 October 2005
Part of us is working hard, feeling resistance, and part is standing off to the side observing. Not the flashy “Aha!” of fire, but the slower dawning realization of perceived relationships.
Thursday 6 October 2005
Don’t get caught in the power struggles today. Some of us will have to choose; you’re either on or off the bus, but it’s leaving town today. In some cases, a sinking ship might be a better simile. Is that a scurrying rat we see?
Friday 7 October 2005
The Moon has been void overnight and now she’s in Sagittarius and Venus will join her there this evening. Some of the heaviness will be lifted. This is a fine night to join with those who share your vision. A night to keep hope alive. Dreams, tonight, carry special messages. Take notes.
Saturday 8 October 2005
Mercury shifts into Scorpio this morning completing the inner re-boot process. Somehow it feels different to be oneself. With Venus in Sagittarius and Mercury in Scorpio, everything seems to come to a point, there must be a point, or points must be made. Please aim carefully.
