The Week beginning September 11th, 2006
Week as a Whole:
While energy levels remain in eclipse time high, this week is relatively calm especially as it begins. We will find change and new input coming later on Friday and Saturday. But like all of us I welcome a respite from high stress levels and a chance to exert more control over the day-to-day in my life. When numerous astrological connections are made, we are more reactive and spend our effort to adjust to changing conditions in our lives and in our minds. This week gives us a chance to catch our breath and digest all that’s been happening in the recent past.
Long-term conditions like the square angle between Jupiter and Neptune continue to agitate our religious and cultural world. Images both compelling and deceiving still flow through the media. We have more spin than facts. Saturn has moved slowly past the opposition to Neptune but they are still a factor challenging our will individually and collectively as we seek to bring outcomes and goals into focus. Notice that Neptune is common to both and the three form a T-square that symbolizes the underlying themes of religious and political conflict, self-delusion, propaganda, and national identities. Neptune typically opens a world of smoke and mirrors, high ideals, secrets and lies, self-undoing, and confusion as old distinctions are blurred.
All of this week’s changes are events that happen every year, unlike the historic T –square mentioned above. On Tuesday Mercury enters Libra and we begin to communicate with a bit more grace and forethought. Our social awareness begins its annual fall expansion. Where we were prone to see flaws and discrepancies with Mercury in Virgo, now we’re seeing how things link up and form relationships. It’s easier to think about how our words will be received BEFORE they leave our mouths.
And this will be especially helpful on Friday when Mercury lines up with Mars and Venus passes opposite Uranus. Mercury and Venus form these patterns every year but it’s rare they happen on the same day. This is a day on which we won’t suffer fools easily or for long. Mercury and Mars can snappy and irritable and at the same time can set off sparks of new ideas and approaches. Since both are now in Libra, the snapping is less than the sparking. We may enjoy the back and forth of debate or flirting or just word play.
Venus and Uranus can bring the sudden realization that we’ve had it up to here with a certain person or social set. If there’s been something bugging us just below conscious expression, Friday may see a frank exchange of differing views as the diplomat would phrase it. Here is an opportunity to step back a bit from our partners and other people who populate our lives. We can see where some adjustments may be necessary. If we feel constrained in some way, our reactions may be explosive. Here again the Libra Mercury and Mars influence may smooth over what would ordinarily be sharply critical or seen as a rejection.
This all leads to the most powerful of these annual patterns: the Sun moving to square Pluto on Saturday. Control and desire are Pluto issues. Small matters of disagreement can escalate suddenly and sometimes violently. There’s no more time for small talk and diplomatic foreplay when Sun and Pluto are square. You’re in or you’re out. And it’s often a healthy move to clean out that which is old and has been outgrown. This is a time for a mental or even physical house-cleaning. Last Saturday Mercury squared Pluto and the media ramp up to the 9/11 anniversary began. Mercury and Pluto bring us the news that we are mortal; that death happens in the world. When the Sun squares Pluto, it’s time to act and make choices that affirm life and its fleeting beauty.
Daily Forecasts:
Monday 11 September 2006
The Virgo Sun and Taurus Moon continue to assist in wise financial decisions and bargain hunting. Especially this evening, we’re careful and slow to decide. Walk away and then come back before signing on the dotted line.
Tuesday 12 September 2006
Look for a shift at 2:00pm/5:00pm today when Mercury and the Moon both move from earth to air signs. This morning our last thoughts are best.
Wednesday 13 September 2006
It’s OK to feel two ways about things under a Gemini Moon. It’s also OK to try on a concept and see if it fits. There may be some mental confusion around midday when the Moon squares Uranus but it will pass.
Thursday 14 September
2006
The Moon is Void all day beginning at 9:00am/12:00pm and lasting until she enters Cancer at 7:53pm/10:53pm. Coast through the day if possible, keeping up routines, and avoid decisions.
Friday 15 September 2006
The Mercury – Mars and Venus – Uranus angles come on strong in the afternoon. Find interesting people who enjoy the free flow of ideas to best use these conditions. Try something or someone new.
Saturday 16 September 2006
Although we’re inclined to be clinging Klingons with a Cancer Moon overhead, we’re ready to leave some piece of our past behind today. The Sun makes a right angle with Pluto this evening. Make your decision before the Moon goes Void at 5:31pm/8:31pm…then go watch Cirque de Soleil – or create your own.
Sunday 17 September 2006
The Moon enters Leo, ending her Void period, at 5:15am/8:15am. This is a day to play in the Sun.
Long Range Forecast:
September 22nd – A Solar Eclipse on the Fall Equinox extends the eclipse’s intensity over the autumn season. Politics and religion driven by unthinking emotion return with Jupiter square to Neptune again and Saturn still opposite Neptune. This forms the tense T-square pattern that indicates power struggles and extreme political hard ball. Sun, Moon, and Mars all in Libra may demonstrate that combat and competition are also forms of relationships.
November 8 – In the middle of Mercury retrograde (10/29 through 11/18) Mercury aligns exactly with the Sun in an “eclipse of Mercury”. The last time this happened was May 2003. Remember “Mission Accomplished?” I’m concerned about major Mercury aspects occurring near Election Day in the U.S. The 2000 election occurred on the day Mercury changed direction. Thanks to reader John Dawson for alerting me to this event.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
April 14, 2009 – September 21,
2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to
Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of business-as-usual politics. The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their
twilight times. The transition to
organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate
feudal mixture.
June 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto,
a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology
and/or petroleum-based economies fail.
Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a
car. Plan to live where you’ll know your
neighbors…maybe even love them. What a
thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
