The Week beginning August 6th, 2007
Week as a Whole:
First, my thanks to all of you who wrote while I was out of commission during my move. Much appreciated. But there’s a lesson here for us. When you try to use astrology as a guide in life’s practical affairs, compromise and hard choices often confront you. It’s usually awkward to tell your co-workers that you’d rather not meet on Wednesday morning because the Moon will be Void. Sometimes creative time management can finesse these situations, but sometimes you have to sit through the pointless meeting. More often, and more difficult, is the situation we had when we decided to move. A New Moon on our joint Taurus Moon was the trigger that started the house search. The double whammy of Mercury Retrograde followed closely by Venus retrograde was looming just ahead. We quickly found an ideal house, mountain and desert setting, close to services and freeways, quiet and safe. If the move was postponed until after Venus went direct in September, this place would be gone…taken by non-astrologer types no doubt.
So we chose to make our move in the 17 days between Mercury and Venus retrograde. Of course that meant making arrangements during the Mercury Retrograde time. Everything was checked and re-checked. All timed to go off on Saturday July 21st: movers, dish TV, and dish Internet services. (There are no broadband connections in this area.) You can guess what happened. Movers came on time, dish TV came on time - no problems, but the communications piece was totally whacked.
First they delivered the equipment to the wrong address. Then they showed up to install a week before the date agreed. Agreed after three confirming phone calls, one by me and two by them. Then on moving day, they don’t show up and can’t return until a week later. A week goes by – no Internet, no email. The installer appears two hours late, installs dish and wiring and then asks for the modem… But a modem was never shipped to me, so we can’t hook up. Three more days. Component arrives; I install it and get an internet connection. But no email, the system rejects my advances as an unknown entity. Hours on hold on help line to no avail. Finally, last Saturday – two weeks late – I connect with customer support and get email. But by now I’ve realized that something is wrong, seriously wrong. The bandwidth speed is as slow as dialup.
More calls to customer support and they conclude that improper wiring was used. So now the installer is “scheduled” to return this Saturday to re-wire. We’ll see. Oh, and the post office has yet to forward a single morsel of mail.
But in the end, I think we made the best possible choice in an astrologer’s dilemma. At least we knew what to expect and could roll with the punches. And I’m back on line, even if it’s in slow motion.
When last I wrote, I noted the Saturn – Pluto link up coming into play. And last week, when the bridge collapsed in Minneapolis, Mars had joined Saturn and Pluto at 26 degrees. You’ll note in this chart that Pluto is exactly rising at the 9 o’clock position. The Moon is aligned with explosive and unpredictable Uranus at 6 o’clock on the horoscope’s “daily travel” area. The Sun and Jupiter are connected perhaps keeping loss of life to a minimum and expanding the story into a larger consideration of the long-neglected U.S. system of highways and bridges. Jupiter was also approaching his annual return to normal motion that occurred this Monday. One of my excellent students sent me this chart which I wish I could say I had foreseen. But I can’t.
We have more Saturn – Pluto to come as the Sun moves into alignment with Saturn and thus a connection with Pluto in two weeks. The mine collapse in Utah is another Pluto power from underground manifestation. But not all is bad here. The British Army has left Northern Ireland after umpteen years of occupation. There is movement by Israel toward the Palestinians. Some endings are good. Some take a long time. Pluto moves at his own pace.
Venus squared Mars today, a twice annual event that’s usually marked by an increase in general klutziness, and people with snapping at each other over petty matters. Both Mars and Venus are in mutable signs, Gemini and Virgo respectively. Venus may try reason and, if that fails, nagging a bit. Mars will wave his hands around and mumble.
Venus is backing into Leo on Wednesday and will be close to Saturn on this Sunday’s New Moon. It doesn’t take a professional astrologer to notice that this New Moon is unusual. Five Leo planets line up across from Neptune in Aquarius. The New Moon degree calls for a return to nature as symbolized by a Native American ritual. Coupled with Neptune, this suggests a real opportunity to exit the cities and spend some quiet time outdoors. No indoor meditations please. As with all mystical times, we may not be seeing clearly what’s right before us. Neptune can blind us to the obvious or perversely, use a shiny surface to blind us to what lies beneath. Tricky times. Coming just before sunset in the U.S., it indicates we may be not seeing our allies or enemies clearly. Nor are they seeing us, but seeing what they project onto us.
There may be some unifying event in this lunar cycle that expresses Neptune’s dissolving of boundaries. Like an extreme weather event that affects rich and poor, all races, all faiths, and shows us our common humanity.
All next week as the Sun, Mercury, and Venus intertwine, they will weave the energy of Neptune and Pluto into our daily lives. It is a time with great potential for growth in understanding and compassion. And it is a time, when we will find ourselves not “in control” as global forces once again shrink our planet.
Daily Forecasts:
Monday 6 August 2007
Everything shifted today. Mars into Gemini, Jupiter resumed direct motion, and Saturn was exactly four signs from Pluto.
Tuesday 7 August 2007
The irritability factor is high today with Mars and Venus in square. Lots of mental energy that can get work done although it’s tiring. Re-working is favored with Venus retrograde.
Wednesday 8 August 2007
Another busy day under the Gemini Moon. Venus backs into Leo and the nitpicking subsides for a while. Think about whose birthday you forgot, and re-celebrate even if it’s months gone by with Venus Retro in Leo.
Thursday 9 August 2007
Minds on fire with Mercury contacting Jupiter – Leo to Sagittarius. Too bad we’re awash in a Cancer Moon and resisting the urge to climb the nearest mountain.
Friday 10 August 2007
The Moon goes Void at 5:57am/8:57am as she links with Uranus. The day begins with a bang and then stays Void until the wee hours on Saturday morning. Ebb tide of feelings. Time to flow.
Saturday 11 August 2007
The Moon entered Leo at 3:42am/5:42am and quickly ignites with fire from Mars and then Jupiter. Expect an odd mixture of Leo outward flow and approaching New Moon introspection.
Sunday 12 August 2007
The New Moon comes at 4:02pm/7:02pm near sunset. Be outside in the least urbanized environment possible. Open your heart and let the sunshine in.
Long Range Forecast:
July 28th – September 9th – Venus is retrograde. First impressions are not necessarily valid. Give people a second chance. Don’t make any major purchases unless you like standing in the return line. Use this time to get to know what you need to be happy and at peace.
August 5th, 2007 – Saturn finally completes the contact with Pluto he almost made last December. As reported then, real political progress will finally take off. Much of the fall’s hopes and expectations can begin to be realized.
September 3rd, 2007 – Saturn enters Virgo for a two and one-half year stay. Given Virgo’s association with health and the military, we can expect to see some progress with U.S. health care legislation and some major changes in the military organization. Perhaps a universal service requirement could be introduced.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
Nov 3, 2008 – Saturn makes an opposition to Uranus that echoes the Saturn
– Uranus/Pluto opposition of March 6, 1966.
Ex-hippies take note. On March 4th,
John Lennon was quoted as saying "We're more popular than Jesus now." The revival of Sixties cultural themes begins
now and builds slowly toward the Uranus – Pluto squares beginning in 2012.
November 15, 2009 – March 21,
2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to
Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of business-as-usual politics. The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their
twilight times. The transition to
organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate
feudal mixture. (Thanks to Rob Ryan for
catching a typo in the date.)
August 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015
- Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to
Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the
1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when
the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail. Plan to live where there is food and water
and you don’t need a car. Plan to live
where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose between
eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the
city.
