July 2007
The Week beginning July 9th, 2007
Week as a Whole:
We are in an “in between time.” Mercury resumes normal motion this Monday evening. And Venus goes retrograde on July 27th. So we have 18 days when our inner planets are functioning in their “normal” way. Since Venus and Mercury both lie inside the Earth’s orbit, closer to the Sun, closer to our center, they represent our inner life – what goes on in our heads and in our feelings and reactions. We use Mercury and Venus every minute of our waking day. Since so much of our decision making is based on our inner thoughts and feelings, most astrologers avoid major decisions when either Mercury or Venus is retrograde to try and avoid complications from second thoughts or missing important information. So we have the next 18 days to get things done with fewer complications.
But what about the “shadows”? Readers of these reports know about the Mercury shadow period. He doesn’t leave his shadow until July 24th. Venus entered her shadow period on June 23rd and won’t leave it until October 11th. Briefly, the shadow period is the time when a retrograde planet is re-tracing degrees of the zodiac; the shadow ends when the planet, having resumed normal motion, moves into new zodiacal territory. So are we doomed? Of course not. The shadow periods, and the retrograde periods themselves even more so, require extra attention to detail and an openness to re-think and re-evaluate. We need to listen to our second thoughts and wait until that very last possible moment before deciding in case late arriving information comes to us. But we have the next 18 days of relatively smooth sailing.
Remember Mercury and Venus are about inner experiences. The world continually bombards us with stimuli: sounds, smells, people, images, situations. We balance this flow of information with an inner dialogue that discusses what’s happening, and what could happen, and what should have happened. Many of us have dealt with this trying to sleep after too much coffee. This is Mercury at work. Mercury also selects where we place our focus and makes behind the scenes choices about what we hear and see. When he’s retro an extra loop in this process is added.
Venus, closer to the Earth, is more immediate. All of us have flavors we like and flavors we don’t like. No time is required for “Mmm good” or “Yuk”. It’s immediate and non-cerebral. We react to people the same way. We also put out “vibes” that magnetically draw to us people in whom we are interested. Some of us require very little stimulation for our reactions; some of us hunger for stimulation to provoke reactions; some of us like to poke sticks at things like 8 year-old boys. Much of this action is below the neck; we might think about and verbalize our reactions, but the reactions are very difficult to control. Venus retrograde will have us reacting and re-reacting, making our first take not always our final take.
But this week also brings us the energy to break out of our ruts when the Sun connects with Uranus on Tuesday. This energy comes twice a year and brings those happy moments when we realize we can free ourselves from our own Lilliputians. We’re more comfortable with being different if we’re normally safer when blending in. We’ll wear that big earring into work or maybe tell the boss what’s been on our minds. And maybe she’ll be more open to new ideas. The spirit is egalitarian and progressive and a little up-against-the-wall. Uranus is a revolutionary planet. He’s also a techno planet, so look for some innovative way to use technology to solve problems.
Uranus is in Pisces, a water sign, and the Sun is in Cancer another water sign. So much of the above comes through our emotions; it’s about feeling free, suddenly liberated from your personal gloom and rain cloud. And we enter deeper into our feelings this Saturday with the New Moon in the 22 degree of Cancer. This New Moon is symbolized by “a young woman waiting for a sailboat.” Each of us longs for something; we hope; we expect. At this New Moon we can go within and get to know what it is we’re waiting and hoping to come to us. Note that a sailboat is borne on the wind and not steam propelled. There’s luck and nature involved. And we should measure whether we’re waiting for external forces to solve our problems rather than solving them on our own. Many of us have waited on mountaintops for the saucer people to come down and solve our problems here on Earth. Maybe they will, but if they don’t, it’s a dangerous inaction to continue waiting when there are opportunities at hand. Knowing what sailboat we’re waiting for can help show us what we really want and need.
Daily Forecasts:
Monday 9 July 2007
If you find yourself doing a process over and over or re-doing something you thought was done, you’re acting out Mercury standing still and resuming normal motion, coming this evening at 7:16pm/10:16pm.
Tuesday 10 July 2007
The Moon is Void from 9:54am/12:54pm until 1:0pm/4:10pm. Use the Sun – Uranus lightning to get started early and let that carry you through the Void period. There’s a buzz of mental stimulation once the Sun enters Gemini. Lots of sparks.
Wednesday 11 July 2007
Continued mental high-test possibly becoming a bit too much this evening when the Moon squares Uranus. Give yourself plenty of room to move today. You won’t like closets or crowded elevators.
Thursday 12 July 2007
The Moon connects with Neptune and Saturn overnight and some of us may awaken more tired than when we went to bed. We’re working in our dreams. The Moon goes opposite Pluto in late morning and then Void at 2:12pm/5:12pm when a social situation can bring a solution. She enters Cancer at 3:39pm/6:39pm and the buzz is definitely over.
Friday 13 July 2007
Both Sun and Moon are in Cancer, and that means we’re most comfortable with the familiar, with happy habits and sweet memories. The Moon contacts Mars and Uranus so bringing home something unusual will be a success.
Saturday 14 July 2007
The New Moon comes at 5:04am/8:04am. We may wake with a longing like Bobby Darin for someone “beyond the Sea”. The feeling may linger like a song through the day although the Moon went Void at the New Moon. She enters Leo at 7:43pm/10:43pm. It’s a good day to work at home on ongoing projects that will bring your future closer.
Sunday 15 July 2007
Less moody now, less self-involved with the Moon drawing expansive energy from Jupiter most of the day. Side step a minor battle of wills this evening when Moon squares Mars. Venus entered Virgo yesterday and small differences can seem disproportionately important. Lighten up.
Long Range Forecast:
July 28th – September 9th – Venus is retrograde. First impressions are not necessarily valid. Give people a second chance. Don’t make any major purchases unless you like standing in the return line. Use this time to get to know what you need to be happy and at peace.
August 5th, 2007 – Saturn finally completes the contact with Pluto he almost made last December. As reported then, real political progress will finally take off. Much of the fall’s hopes and expectations can begin to be realized.
September 3rd, 2007 – Saturn enters Virgo for a two and one-half year stay. Given Virgo’s association with health and the military, we can expect to see some progress with U.S. health care legislation and some major changes in the military organization. Perhaps a universal service requirement could be introduced.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
Nov 3, 2008 – Saturn makes an opposition to Uranus that echoes the Saturn
– Uranus/Pluto opposition of March 6, 1966.
Ex-hippies take note. On March 4th,
John Lennon was quoted as saying "We're more popular than Jesus now." The revival of Sixties cultural themes begins
now and builds slowly toward the Uranus – Pluto squares beginning in 2012.
April 14, 2009 – March 21, 2010 -
Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in
Capricorn. The end of
business-as-usual politics. The
nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government
will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.
July 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto,
a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology
and/or petroleum-based economies fail.
Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a
car. Plan to live where you’ll know your
neighbors…maybe even love them. What a
thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.

Ongoing Classes:
