The Week beginning June 11th, 2007
Week as a Whole:
Sorry this report is late coming but Mercury Retrograde paid me an early visit and my computer system decided to assert its independence this past weekend. Certainly the three weeks when Mercury appears to move backward through the zodiac are the most intense, but there is a period before and after these three weeks when Mercury’s retro effects can be felt. This is called the “shadow period”. This week brings us inward to the New Moon in Gemini on Thursday, after a major dose of Neptune’s mystery and glamour on Wednesday. All these influences will have most of us more and more distracted and self-absorbed as the week unfolds.
Mercury’s retrograde period lasts from June 15th thru July 10th. The shadow period began on May 31st and lasts until July 24th. Mercury’s motion during this retro period follows an “S” curve as he slows up moving counter-clockwise to his retrograde point where he stops and reverses his motion; then he moves clockwise for 21 days and stops again to resume normal counter-clockwise motion. The points where he stops mark the end and the beginning of the shadow period. The zodiac in the shadow zone is traversed three times by Mercury: forward, backward, and forward again. This back and forth motion describes our mental process during this period. We review and re-think, rehearse and replay. From time to time, the inner dialogue is confused with actual spoken words, so we think we’ve said something when we’ve only thought about saying it. Those of us, like this writer, who were born during Mercury retrograde, know this convoluted process well.
Certain events are typical during Mercury retrograde. They include weird weather, news relating to the deep past – prehistory – old news comes back online, and the ever popular communications snafus. Long-time readers know that Mercury retrograde can be used to re-organize data and files and reach back into one’s past to re-connect. Old creative material can be revived and reworked. But it is not a good idea to make major commitments during this period if they can be avoided. Typically some detail is overlooked and arises when Mercury goes direct requiring revisions.
The most intense times are when Mercury stands still to change direction – June 15th and July 10th. There can be a druggy feeling and while meditation can be quite intense, normal business may require what seems like major effort just to put a sentence together. The mental fog that rolls in this week is augmented by connections from the Sun and Mars to Neptune as well as the New Moon which all occur just as Mercury is coming to a standstill.
Neptune brings us visions of perfection; he shows us the ideal, the ultimate. He ignites our imagination and he lowers our boundaries. We move underwater seeing reality through this wavy lens. Our connection with the collective unconscious is expanded allowing images and archetypes to flow into our minds. Neptune brings us together in situations where social distinctions don’t matter, situations like mass media events, extreme weather, the threat of disease, and celebrity adulation to mention a few. He can bring out the best and worst in people. His energy is best understood as pointing in a direction, carrots for our several mules – carrots that are seen but only occasionally tasted. Big expectations leading to disappointment can be a side-effect.
The Gemini New Moon has the symbol of “skating on ice”. We can make the most of difficult conditions using our learned skills or we can ignore them and put ourselves in peril. The Gemini New Moon connects with all the planets except for Venus and Mercury, the interior personal planets. Mercury is barely moving and Venus is beginning to slow for her retrograde period that begins late next month. It may feel like we’re isolated with activity and decisions flowing all around us, but somehow seeming not real or not personal. Our minds should be very busy at a Gemini New Moon, but the Gemini engine (Mercury) is turning over ever so slowly. With Mercury in Cancer, our emotions and security needs color our thoughts. Life may seem more complicated and baffling than usual in these complicated and often baffling times. A small (ice-skate) footprint and precise steps may be the method to follow during this lunar cycle that begins Thursday.
Gemini is about local matters, the neighborhood, the day-to-day people, information, and travels that make up our daily life. The Gemini New Moon is a time to consider how we spend these “little moments” that add up to much of the time in our life. With Mercury slowing and Neptune swirling, our thoughts should be deep and long and will benefit from quality time in a peaceful setting.
Daily Forecasts:
Monday 11 June 2007
After the Moon ends her Void period at 4:29am/7:29am, the fire-triangle flares its last major flame as plans take form from the Sun and Mars linked to Saturn. We have two days of earth energy from this Taurus Moon. Get grounded.
Tuesday 12 5June 2007
Give form to your imagination as the Taurus Moon makes a T-square with Saturn and Neptune this afternoon before she goes Void at 4:18pm/7:18pm. The hard work required will pay off. Just keep plugging along.
Wednesday 13 June 2007
The Moon enters Gemini at 5:24am/8:24am. The Sun has connected with Neptune overnight bringing Technicolor dreams with symbolic meaning. One of those days when the dreams remain present in our minds. Mars links with Neptune early in the afternoon signaling possible false starts but also inspiration and new challenges.
Thursday 14 June 2007
The New Moon comes at 8:13pm/11:13pm on a day best spent on a beach or mountaintop. Make some quiet time and let your mind slowly drift where it will.
Friday 15 June 2007
The Moon went Void overnight and enters Cancer at 6:45am/9:45am. Mercury is standing still and the Moon is moving to align with him tonight. Double check every detail possible, and then check again. Call back and confirm. Relax and expect some glitch that gives food for thought.
Saturday 16 June 2007
We’re not thinking much, but our feelings/hunches are working and deserve our attention. Listen to your body and its feelings.
Sunday 17 June 2007
Another Void Moon overnight ending when she enters Leo at 10:25am/1:25pm. We can feel the heavy energy of Pluto as the Sun moves toward tomorrow’s opposition. Something’s coming to an end.
Long Range Forecast:
June 15th – July 10th - Mercury is retrograde and we can expect the usual “blasts from the past”, miscommunications, computers turned Frankensteins, weird weather, and an excellent time to re-start projects involving contracts, words, or organization.
July 28th – September 9th – Venus is retrograde. First impressions are not necessarily valid. Give people a second chance. Don’t make any major purchases unless you like standing in the return line. Use this time to get to know what you need to be happy and at peace.
August 5th, 2007 – Saturn finally completes the contact with Pluto he almost made last December. As reported then, real political progress will finally take off. Much of the fall’s hopes and expectations can begin to be realized.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
Nov 3, 2008 – Saturn makes an opposition to Uranus that echoes the Saturn
– Uranus/Pluto opposition of March 6, 1966.
Ex-hippies take note. On March 4th,
John Lennon was quoted as saying "We're more popular than Jesus now." The revival of Sixties cultural themes begins
now and builds slowly toward the Uranus – Pluto squares beginning in 2012.
April 14, 2009 – March 21, 2010 -
Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in
Capricorn. The end of
business-as-usual politics. The
nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government
will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.
June 24, 2012 – April 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto,
a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology
and/or petroleum-based economies fail.
Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a
car. Plan to live where you’ll know your
neighbors…maybe even love them. What a
thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
