19 March 2006 – 25 March 2006
Spring begins the astrological year on Monday in a week of harmony and flowing energy that contrasts with the tensions of the recent past. Eclipse season is still with us so the overall energy level is high, but we encounter less resistance to our ideas and projects. In fact, we're being infused with more than the usual life energy of spring. We feel emboldened to try something new, we're seeking challenges, we're lighting fires and shining light into new areas of our lives. Later this week, Venus moves into a cooperative contact with Mars and our social life flows with grace and ease. The bluster and windbaggery of Jupiter in square to Neptune remains with us and we need to guard against being blinded by our imaginations as Neptune also influences our social life. The only element lacking is earth, and so we need to guard against being totally swept away by our own enthusiasm and underestimating the time required to reach our goals.
At the Vernal Equinox, this Monday, the Earth is moving into the half of its orbit around the Sun where it tilts the northern hemisphere toward the Sun. The days are rapidly growing longer in the northern hemisphere. If the streets in your town are laid out N-S E-W like they are in L.A., driving at sunset or sunrise is an exercise in visor and sunglass management because the Sun is rising and setting directly in the east and west. Notice in the next couple weeks that sunset/sunrise will move north of your east-west streets as the Earth receives more and more life energy from the Sun.
The chart for the equinox is dominated by triangular connections linking the Sun, Moon, and Saturn, another set linking Mars, Venus, and Neptune, and another set combining Mercury and Jupiter. Prior weeks have featured more square and opposition connections symbolizing the conflict and stress we've felt. Triangular links put planets in the same element in contact. The Sun, Moon, and Saturn are all in fire signs in this chart: Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo respectively. Mars, Venus, and Neptune are all in air signs: Gemini and Aquarius, and Mercury and Jupiter in water signs: Pisces and Scorpio. The Earth signs, Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo are notably missing except for mid-week when the Moon passes through Capricorn. Signs in the same element reinforce and cooperate with each other. Momentum is easily built. If an idea sparks my mind, Aries fashion, it's easier for me to steady it into a solid thought form on which I can focus my Leo will, and from there sparks and flashes can spread through Sagittarian arrows.
Mars in Gemini can generate the interesting information and clever expressions that find a receptive audience in groups of friendly people who are relaxed and open minded thanks to Venus in Aquarius. “Live and let live” could be the motto of Venus in Aquarius and this facilitates the easy flow of ideas and communication. Neptune's involvement makes it easy for groups to imagine/visualize their shared goals and ideals. But he can also impart a sense of self-righteousness that runs counter to the laissez-faire Venus.
The week begins with a fiery emphasis and ends in the air on an extremely busy Saturday. Air is a home element for Mercury the communicator, and he stands still on Saturday, for an instant, as he resumes normal motion after three weeks of retrograde. It's possible some of us may find ourselves making happy noises at each other Saturday rather than precise and clear verbal messages. Words and thoughts may bubble up in our heads faster than our lips can move. Or the thoughts may outrun the words and we feel like bursting with an idea but can't get it out there.
For writers and other idea workers, this is a rare period to mine new thoughts and concepts. Mars connected with Neptune animates our visionary abilities. Many paths to the future seem possible and clear. With Venus aligned with Neptune, we share a sense of comradeship and a common quest. It's possible, probably likely, we could overestimate the resources and commitments of those around us. But the feeling of a shared ideal, of advancing a vision held in common is real.
On a personal level, the Mars, Venus, Neptune combo supports a romantic adventure. Listen and act on impulse; break out of routine habits in your partnerships; step outside into the clear air and take a fresh look. And if you feel a bit like a balloon floating in a warm breeze, enjoy it and feel “the force that through the green fuse drives the flower” that comes with spring.
Daily Forecasts:
The first of many harmonies comes this evening as the Scorpio Moon goes Void as she connects with the Pisces Sun. This is water power, not air, and not fire. Feel it don't think it.
The Moon has entered Sagittarius overnight and the Sun enters Aries on the Vernal Equinox at 10:26am/1:26pm. Expect a sense of a stepping out on a new beginning. The mood shifts from water to fire, from body to mind, from reaction to generation.
We may wake early and restless as the Sagittarius Moon passes opposite Mars after connecting with Venus. Avoid confining people and situations. Fire is not known for patience and needs new fuel to grow.
The Moon is Void until 7:36am/10:36am when she enters Capricorn and we have two and a half days of earth energy, so look for ways to give form and mass to your ideas. Plan and organize, marshal resources, and consider how you will spend your time.
Ditto for today, but also reach out for advice and power. It's there if you ask, but it won't be handed to you. Do it before the Moon goes Void at 3:30pm/6:30pm.
The Moon remains Void until 11:21am/2:21pm when she enters Aquarius and the voyage to outer space begins. The Sun is creatively linked with Saturn and some of our wishes can come true. Give praise and share the spotlight. Enjoy a good laugh with friends, especially if you can laugh at yourself. Ego swells with fire, so be careful not to over inflate.
A sense of humor will come in handy today when Mercury makes us flub-a-dub as he stands still. It's a dreamy day and an even more other-worldly evening under Neptune's rule. Avoid pollution and listen to hunches. If it feels bad somewhere today, make a hasty exit and go somewhere it feels good. Sit on a hillside tonight and watch bright Jupiter rise in the east.
Long Range Forecast:
March 25th - Mercury resumes normal motion on a very busy day that includes both Mars and Venus connecting with Neptune. The hard edges of reality may be hard to find on this day, but romance and imagination will reign. Life is but a dream...as the song goes.
Eclipse Season begins this week with a Lunar Eclipse on Tuesday in 24 Virgo. Eclipses in Virgo – Pisces bring a shift in our perceived reality. We need to make an adjustment to the world we see around us. The shift may come as a change in diet or work or health related areas. Something that's been there all along becomes visible and we cannot ignore its presence. Mars will activate this point early in April. A Solar Eclipse will follow on March 29th at 8 Aries that will call forth a new balance with our relations both friendly and unfriendly. Pluto stands still on that day so the “unfriendly” relations may need first attention.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
March 14, 2009 – August 21, 2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of business-as-usual politics. The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.
June 24, 2012 – March 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail. Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a car. Plan to live where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
