5 March 2006 – 11 March 2006
To make good use of the Mercury Retrograde conditions we're under, I've modified the Celestial Weather layout following the suggestions of a reader. Mercury retrograde is manifesting in the reformation of AT&T into the giant corporation we used to know as “Ma Bell”. We're looking backward at the sad story of NFL star Pat Tillman's death by friendly fire (a Mercury retro event in itself) in Afghanistan. The U.S. Supreme Court is reviewing the Texas re-districting that had such a major effect on the 2004 elections. And finally, someone is sending out spam using the Celestial Weather return address, so I'm getting bombarded with failed delivery messages for messages I haven't sent.
This week begins rather slowly and provides a brief respite from last week's buzz and confusion. Early on Thursday morning a grand water triangle is formed by the Cancer Moon, the Pisces Sun, and Jupiter in Scorpio. This indicates a powerful emotional surge of energy that's available and, in some cases, may overwhelm. In astrology the water element always expresses the connections and communion that bind us together as families and lovers and as a people. We share emotions and thus share a common experience. This non-logical connectedness to a world beyond our skin is the substance of much religious experience. To feel and to believe that we are not isolated units but rather parts of a whole that's somehow unified with common purpose and meaning is a high expression of the water signs. Grace Slick (and John Donne) said it so well, “No man is an island...he's a peninsula.”
Not all of us deal with our emotions gracefully. There's also the possibility that all sorts of emotions can swell and escalate out of control. This can be managed by keeping your water clear and pure. The water energy can be polluted and become poisonous. So it's important to have our sensors out and tuned during times watery times like Thursday and the 24-36 hours before. Listen to your feelings more than your head. If a situation feels tense, if your stomach knots or your teeth grind, find a way to exit. Go to those places in your world that feel clean and clear and sit in that clarity and let it wash you clean. We all need these places of refuge, but the water sign people – Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces – need them more than the rest of us.
After Thursday, expect to feel a different tension build toward next Saturday when Mars makes a square angle with Uranus. Mars always acts early so by Saturday morning this violence prone combination will have peaked and will fade away quickly. The tendency with Mars in Gemini and Uranus in Pisces is over-reaction. Some people and situations will be in a hair-trigger mode. A poorly thought out word can be enough to release pent up anger and frustration. Political rhetoric is likely to be fiery and inflammatory. But this Mars – Uranus combo can be used to make new connections and find new language to describe complex situations.
But on Friday, before the Mars – Uranus peak, Venus makes her annual passage opposite Saturn. This is always a time to review and prune our social life. At this time our commitments are serious and we're more interested in responsibility than romance. We're thinking about the long-term scale of time. And we're feeling this critical approach coming at us just as much as we're applying to those around us. So we're all a little uptight and afraid to be the fool. We may find ourselves socially involved with people of a widely differing age brackets or operating in a milieu that seems stiffer or more formal. Much to be learned here about courtesy and timing, but not a “Beach Blanket Bingo” situation.
So there's a social pressure cooker forming at the end of this week with Mars – Uranus breakout pressure building against the Venus – Saturn constraints. Plan to find a healthy way to run wild and crazy on the weekend.
Daily Forecasts:
Venus enters Aquarius very early today followed by the Moon entering Gemini at 6:38am/9:38am. This sets a mental wordy tone for the beginning of the week. We need and can give space. Space to see how we relate.
Today's First Quarter Moon will show us how much of last week's whirl and flash will be lasting and how much was just fluff and froth. Expect a return of the buzzy feeling.
The Moon is Void from 8:09am/11:09am until she enters Cancer at 2:38pm/5:38pm. Big mood swing into having a mood rather than thoughts. Watch the focus move down from your head into your middle.
A day like being lifted, rising and falling in the surf of feelings. Much more is felt than said. Make sure you have access to at least one place that feels safe.
Those waves can lift you into waters over your head today and we need to swim or at least tread water to stay afloat. In the right place with the right people, we can find joy today. Avoid those sad ones held prisoner by the demons of negative or angry emotion. The Moon goes Void at 12:41pm/3:41pm and after that it's all sound and fury signifying not much.
Although we may feel an almost overwhelming urge to spit in someone's eye, today is not the day. This is a test of self-control with Venus opposite Saturn activated from late morning to late night by the Leo Moon moving opposite Venus and over Saturn. Much that appears to be personally directed at you, may really be neutral, and we may find we're not that important after all. A relief and a letdown at the same time.
Leap out of bed and get active; climb a mountain; punch that heavy bag; clean out the cellar. Mars at right angles to Uranus brings change and some measure of destruction...sometimes for its own sake. If you have male teenagers, be sure to provide a channel. And maybe hide the car keys.
Long Range Forecast:
March 25th - Mercury resumes normal motion on a very busy day that includes both Mars and Venus connecting with Neptune. The hard edges of reality may be hard to find on this day, but romance and imagination will reign. Life is but a dream...as the song goes.
Eclipse Season begins next week with a Lunar Eclipse on Tuesday in 24 Virgo. Eclipses in Virgo – Pisces bring a shift in our perceived reality. We need to make an adjustment to the world we see around us. The shift may come as a change in diet or work or health related areas. Something that's been there all along becomes visible and we cannot ignore its presence. Mars will activate this point early in April. A Solar Eclipse will follow on March 29th at 8 Aries that will call forth a new balance with our relations both friendly and unfriendly. Pluto stands still on that day so the “unfriendly” relations may need first attention.
Long-Long Range Forecast:
March 14, 2009 – August 21, 2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of business-as-usual politics. The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.
June 24, 2012 – March 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail. Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a car. Plan to live where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.
