Celestial Weather

19 February 2006 – 25 February 2006

Week of February 19th, 2006

Week as a Whole:

The Sun makes a right angle with Mars this Sunday morning. The Sun makes this pattern on a regular basis, at least one each year, sometimes two. Our physical energy, our aggression, and our sexuality all reach elevated levels when the Sun and Mars connect. The square angle gives the energy an edge and a slightly higher potential to act out in anger, but may manifest as no more than an increase in irritability.

Both the Sun and Mars left fixed signs late last week: Aquarius and Taurus respectively. Both have now entered mutable signs: Pisces and Gemini. As you can imagine from the word “mutable” planets in mutable signs are more open to change and responsive to people and situations. Planets in fixed signs have the virtue of continuing in a chosen direction despite pressure to adjust or change. But there can be too much fixity and this shift, especially for Mars, will open us up and make it easier to adapt and compromise.

Mars in Gemini is mentally stimulating; we find our heads filled with ideas, some good and some trivial and some totally bogus. But new ideas keep coming and we will discover that problem-solving has become easier, even fun. Rather than relentlessly charging into a problem with the same approach, hoping to overcome it by sheer force, now we can back off, re-group, re-think, and amazingly, talk it over.

Gemini likes to try out ideas and attitudes as a way of discovering its inner balance. This is one reason why Gemini is often accused of duplicity when it's really a side effect of a trial and error process of self-discovery. Mars in Gemini may find that there are two solutions to problems or two ways to phrase a response. This “dual” flavor is reinforced by the Pisces Sun.

The symbol for Pisces is two fishes swimming in opposite directions just touching each other as they pass. The Pisces person experiences two or more intersecting realities in life. Just like the fish swims beneath the mirrored water surface and can jump clear into another world, the person with a Pisces Sun knows well that there are doorways and surfaces that connect very different worlds. He or she also knows that energies flow across these boundaries. And boundaries, or the lack of boundaries, is a central issue for many Pisces people.

Unlike Gemini who reacts to and emits information, Pisces reacts to feelings and imagery and can leap non-logically to amazing insights or amazing folly. Pisces is an ecological sign; that is, it lives in a world that exists within a larger world that exists in a still larger world and so on out to the universe. To a Pisces sometimes “everything is everything” and all the time everything has meaning.

The Last Quarter Moon late on Monday (11:16pm/2:16am) marks the beginning of the end of the lunar cycle. The Moon is closing on the Sun's position to form the New Moon next Monday. This phase of the Moon is a time when results become apparent, when consequences roll back toward those responsible. From the New Moon until the Full Moon the flow is outward, from Full Moon to New Moon the flow is inward. So we're slowly dealing with the karma we've created, and reaping the rewards we have earned. And as the New Moon gets closer, we become more introspective, a little lost in the gathering darkness, and we need quiet time to get in touch with the inner seeds of the coming new cycle.

Notice in the Last Quarter Moon chart that the Moon is opposite Mars in Gemini and together they form a T-square pattern with the Sun. This tense “itchy and scratchy” condition only lasts for a few hours preceding the moment of the chart.

After this opening tension, the week calms and continues rather uneventfully. Next week tension levels increase (see the Long Range Forecast below), but this is a fluid time when we're under less pressure and have more freedom of choice. Enjoy.

Long Range Forecast:

March 2nd - 4th - Mercury goes retrograde on March 2nd and two days later Jupiter does the same. Since both symbolize human communications and mental processing, we can certainly expect more than the usual Mercury Retrograde confusions. Computer networks and the media may exhibit anomalous behavior. Past events will resurface and be revisited. Mercury resumes normal motion on March 25th; prior to then avoid signing contracts and making decisions based on critical information. Something may be overlooked.

Long-Long Range Forecast:

February 14, 2009 – August 21, 2010 - Saturn makes a series of squares to Pluto newly in Capricorn. The end of business-as-usual politics. The nationalistic dinosaurs will enter their twilight times. The transition to organic regional government will not be smooth…the result may be some corporate feudal mixture.

June 24, 2012 – March 17, 2015 - Uranus in Aries forms his first major hard aspect to Pluto, a square angle, since they were aligned in the second half of the 1960’s. Hippie dreams may come true when the ecology and/or petroleum-based economies fail. Plan to live where there is food and water and you don’t need a car. Plan to live where you’ll know your neighbors…maybe even love them. What a thought! We may have to choose between eating grain on a commune or growing very thin in the city.

Daily Forecasts

Sunday 19 February 2006

Very busy and buzzy with the Sun in square to Mars and later Mercury connecting with Jupiter. Things long-obscured can become clear tonight with our mind operating smoothly. The connections and communication are more emotional and feeling-based than intellectual, so listen to your heart.

Monday 20 February 2006

The buzz continues but the Moon is Void all day until 6:38pm/9:38pm when she enters Sagittarius and immediately charges up the T-square pattern. Avoid confining situations this evening and engage your mind in a stimulating project. Sleep may not come until after midnight.

Tuesday 21 February 2006

The “big picture” grabs our attention and one more secret may get jarred loose by the Moon squaring Uranus today. Honesty is not just the best policy these days, it's the only policy.

Wednesday 22 February 2006

The Moon goes Void at 6:05pm aligning with Pluto. The religious chest-beating may elevate its volume above the background drone we've become used to. This Moon – Pluto contact is always useful to clear your head and let go of old preconceptions.

Thursday 23 February 2006

There's lots of opportunities today under the Moon now in Capricorn. Show respect, ask for guidance, and you will receive. But you must ask, no one will volunteer.

Friday 24 February 2006

More of the same until the Moon goes Void at 4:58pm/7:58pm. Curry your favor while you may – today's another good day to look good. Seriously, its a time when fulfilling one's responsibilities both large and small will be rewarded.

Saturday 25 February 2006

The Moon has entered Aquarius overnight and our concern for the opinion of those in authority shrinks rapidly to nil. We're happy to be free and able to speak our own truth as aided by Mars in Gemini.
