Perhaps the most basic premise of astrology is that time has a changing quality described by the positions and interrelationships of the planets. Even though each of us interacts with our time differently because of our unique birth charts, we all share certain common conditions and effects. We live our lives in this Celestial Weather.

After studying, teaching and counselling for over 40 years, I use my understanding of astrology to guide my plans and activities. Professional astrologers consider "sun sign" astrology to be a nearly useless simplification. Human life is much more complicated.

Celestial Weather reporting analyzes time's quality from a professional astrolger's POV in terms intended to be understood and useful to the average reader. The information presented here is intended to be a useful guide to planning, scheduling, and living.

Overview:

This week as the Moon passes through her waning phase culminating with the Solar Eclipse next Sunday, the tides of time are flowing back at us bringing the results of choices made over the past lunar cycle. Typically energy unfolds after the New Moon and flows outward into our world cresting at the Full Moon, and consequences flow back to us as the Moon wanes from Full back to the next New Moon.

This Sunday everything is everything - all planets connect with at least one other planet: Venus swings with Saturn, Mercury is in a triangle of earth with Mars and Pluto, the Sun is aligned with Jupiter, Uranus is moving in to square with Pluto, and the Moon on Sunday morning, aligns with Neptune. There are 5 earth planets in play which helps to keep our heads from exploding. This time is well-suited to setting long-range goals and allocating time and money to reach them. Don't ignore or bottle up your subtle feelings, they may be the most important clues to what you really want.

Expect some social awkwardness and rigidity as Venus slows Monday and Tuesday to begin her retrograde period that lasts until June 27th. Take your time with people and your reactions to them. Don't make judgements based upon first impressions; wait for another side to become visible. Venus spends all of this retro period in Gemini so how people speak and how we speak to them are the most important dynamics to consider. You may find that words that failed to convince or assuage in the past will become effective if repeated. What's broken can be mended.

Use Tuesday's long VOID Moon period to reflect and get clear before yielding to the strong push from Mars to take action. Mars exactly links with Pluto, his comrade in arms, on Wednesday. Ignore the impulse to add a little more fuel to the fire. Give everyone lots of space and don't put yourself in a box. Containing the energy too tightly can lead to an explosion. Use a light deft touch as much as possible.

Looking back in time to find the causes of the emerging consequences is a good use of Thursday and Friday. We're evolving a new way of thinking about our lives and life-styles as we move toward the Solar Eclipse next Sunday. You may feel correctly that a phase has ended and a new one is beginning.

Seek a quiet refuge this weekend and gaze into your inner "Magic Eight Ball' for answers.

Multi-planet interactions mark a turning point. Long range budgeting and review of core values today as the Sun aligns with Jupiter and Mercury links with Mars - all earth signs. Look for hunches and little "signs" as the Pisces Moon connects to this.

That's right, Venus goes retrograde at 7:33am/10:33am meanwhile the Moon has gone VOID at 4:59am/7:59am. Not much gets done until the Moon enters Aries at 2:45pm/5:45pm. Begin looking for second impressions with people. Ignore last night's dream of being naked in a crowd.

Venus has "stood still" exactly connected with Saturn. This is an excellent time to take an inventory of the people around you and identify the nourishers and the drainers. Venus is retro until June 27th. A light touch with the housekeeping as Mars amplifies Pluto's power today as well. Try not to linger on the Gulliver feelings.

Feeling caught in a whirlpool as the Solar Eclipse tomorrow draws near. Ideas are lurking just below consciousness.

Venus goes retrograde May 15th and resumes normal motion on June 27th. She is in Gemini throughout this time.

Saturn in Libra remains in his annual 4 month retrograde period until June 25th.

Pluto in Capricorn is retrograde, again an annual 4 months until September 17th.

In the Night Sky

You can still see Venus in the Southwest evening sky. Watch her lower in the sunset west over the next 2 weeks until she disappears as she passes between the Sun and the Earth. Venus will cross the Sun's disc on June 5th and 6th when the Earth - Venus - Sun fall in a straight line. Venus then becomes a "morning star".

Mars and Saturn are now visible overhead with Saturn to the east/left of Mars looking south.

Just at sunset you scan catch a last glimpse of the 3 stars in a row in the western evening sky that form Orion’s Belt, and you may be able to see his sword hanging down from the left end of the belt. Orion is disappearing from the night sky to return next autumn.
